Rigi Kulm HB/SZ-021

my plan for today was to activate Calmut, with a nice Snowshoe Track. Due to a problem in Main Station Lucerne, they blow up an ATM . I had to change my plan. I went over Zurich to Arth-Goldau, from there to Rigi-Kulm.
That means no walking, no Snowshoe, just 9 easy points. At the top i found a nice windy bench for my activation. By time, the time seemed to get colder every minute. Anyway i’am here to do a Job.

Once installed, i check the 40m, but this was to busy to find a free frequency. After checking 20m i foudn a free spot for me. my fingers started freezing as i got the first QSO, even a S2S. After a quarter hour i had 10 QSO and frozen finders. Time to get a Hot Swiss coffee.

Handalm OE/ST-348 18.09.2021

Last year we planned a vacation in Vienna, that was postponed due to Covid-19 Situation. We planed to go Vienna and later visit friends living in Wundschuh, outside from Graz. Since travelling allows, we decided to go this September, checking on Sotlas, what summit could be near Graz, i found a good place on Handalm. I called my friend about this place, he said might be fun going there. On Saturday 2021.09.18 my friend and me started around 8am UTC, a one our drive and a short hike i started installing my antenna just below a Windpower Station  on Handalm.  40m was to busy to find a free frequency, on 20m i got some nice QSO as well as some S2S with Austrian Stations.

Bürgenstock HB/NW-019 09.09.2021

First time this year i went with Junior to an easy one, we decided to drive up to Bürgenstock, instead the public transport. After a short hike, i started installing my antenna, as it started to rain, well all in a bag and a raincoat as cover. When the pants were wet, the rain stopped. I took my gear and checked for a S2S, none so far. Around 9:30h i started calling cq and in no time i had 15 QSO.  Since all was wet, we went down over the so called Felsenweg. Its a cliff  path with a fabulous view to Lake Lucerne and Rigi. On the way down to the Bürgenstock Resort you walk by the Hammetschwand Elevator.

From this place you may see more than 10 Sota Summits.

Gurten HB/BE-111 26.08.2021

Today we went to the local mountain of Bern, named Gurten. Wx was like autumn, a sunny day with light wind from east. As tried to setup the antenna they started to mow the grass, rigth where i wanted to install my antenna.  I called him to mow first here, what he did, so i gave him a tip for this. After a short time i was ready to work. The band was quite busy, but i found a space and started calling.  After the lunch we walked down.

On our way down, we had some luck to see a young falcon trying to hover above the ground, later he sat on a tree and i toke a picture from far away, may be you can  see him.

Born HB/SO-016 18.08.2021

Today i went with my XYL for a shotz activation to the nearby Born, a Hill with 719m, This time we went from the Back side, it has an easier ascent to the top. WX was not to hot, perfect for this Hike.  After 50 minutes we got to the activation area and i started by setting up my antenna. Soon after i had my first QSO  with HB9GIN doing a first activation of HB/UR-076, together with HB9DQM, i had later a Qso with him as well on 40m. The conditions where no so good, i had not the best reports. Anyway i got enough.

Moleson HB/FR-019 23.07.2021

A sunny day, we decided to go for an easy one. Le Moleson is in the heart of cheeseland Fribourg and Gruyere.  From the village of Moléson-sur-Gruyères a funicular leads to Plan Francey (1,517 m), from where the cable car starts. After a short hike you are at the top. The activation area is limited and a lot of people are on that place. I installed my antenna on top of a fence. Within a half hour i had  10 QSO from that 2 S2S, i know both OM’s personally.

Later we walked down an went by Bus to Gruyeres, a small old town and had some food.

Mont Racine HB/NE-001 12.06.2021

Today is National Summit Activation Day, for the first Time, every Canton shall be activated and for the first time, the day will be two days. Therefore i decided to go for an French speaking canton. The highest summit is Mont Racine with 1’439m. When i got to the summit, there where very few people. I setup my antenna and started working. Later i locked around, i was surrounded with hikers have their break.  I concentrated doing S2S this day. and at the end i even tried a cw contact with HB9CBR, he was really patient with me and at finally i did it.

Dossen HB/SZ-035 31.03.2021

My last chance to 3 extra points was the 31. Mars 2021, the weather forecast was perfect, so i started around 6.00 UTC for my Trip to HB/SZ-035.  This summit belongs to the massif Rigi, that sits along the Lake Lucerne and others, check Wiki for this. It’s a well know area, where a lot of people are going for hiking or just taking some sun. Usually it’s also full of tourist, but due to Covid-19 it’s not crowded.

To my surprise there is still a lot of snow at the top station, they told me around 1 meter of snow. F*** i didn’t brought my snow shoes, it will be a challenge.

i really had to suffer to get these extra point, some times i sunk up to my waist in to the snow, the way back was not easier. I was compete exhausted at the end of the day, but i got my point and two S2S.

Selibüel HB/BE-151 18.02.2021

Finally the wx was good enough for a snowshoe trail. The travel by public transport brouth me in a little more than one and a half hour to the start point of this hike. At the bus station is a center of Nordic sport cross-country skiing. The parking was very busy.

A short but steep trail gets you in 30 minutes to the summit. At the top, table and bancs are still covered with snow. The sun was shining, so i was ready for a nice activation. I installed my antenna and started checking who is on the air. It was too early, nobody there. I started with 40m and had after little time 10 qso. All of a sudden the sun was away and it was getting colder with a cool wind.  I checked the bus timetable and decided to leave. Due to Covid-19 there are no open restaurant where you can warm up your self.

Chaiserstuel HB/NW-008 19.09.2020

During the First European SOTA Day on September 19, 2020, i decided to go to Chaiserstuel to make some QSO. It takes some time to get there. From Oberrickenbach is a cable car to access the Bannalp area. From here you may have a hike to Engelberg,named Walenpfad. We went to the opposite direction to HB/NW-008.  Due to Covid-19 we arrived late at Bannalp.

This time i went with my son. The hike was diverted because off aggressive cows.  English Version about crazy cows. After around 2h we got to the top. On Top is a flat area, you could make a Soccer field, that big. After installing my equipment i started listening an looking for S2S. Since there was very bad coverage of cell phone, it was not so easy to find OM’s. Anyway i managed to get enough to get my points.
