The wx forecast was excellent, therefore i got my gear together and went by Public transport to the Oberalppass, wich belongs to  Skiarena Andermatt-Sedrun. The summit Calmut is the first after the Oberalp Pass, that connects Swiss Cantons Uri with Graubünden. Calmut is an easy 1 hour snow shoe hike with flat beginning and a step finish. As i got to the top, it was really windy, cold and strong wind.

I installed my antenna, the mast tied to the bench. I could protect myself behind the backpack from the wind. It was my first try with 60m and it locks promising, i got 9 QSO in only 7 minutes.  On 20m i worked OM’s from all over Europe. As the wind got stronger i had to leave. Over all, a successful activation, i will do again next winter.

Once in a while i’m  en route with my son. Our Summit today is Piz Cavradi. By train we went to Oberalppass. Here starts the so called “Vier Quellen Weg” that means around Oberalp Gotthard is a hinking trails that goes around the four spring for the following Rivers, Rhine, Reuss, Rhône and Ticino. These are the biggest Rivers in Switzerland. They go to three diffenrent seas. Trough the trails, you can Visit all springs.

Our first target is the Maighels hut. From here the real ascent starts to Piz Cavradi.

A lot of rocks are along the trail. At the top you find a summit register, that might help you to mount your antenna. I had my tripod with me und used this one. Due to weight i had only a vertical antenna, this was a bad Idea. A lot of other OM have been around, i couldn’t contact them. Next time i will be using a wire again. Anyway, i got my needed QSO and 10 Point.
