Monte Tamaro HB/TI-131 14.09.2018

I wanted to make a hike with my Junior. Depending the weather, we decided to go to the warmer part of Switzerland, Ticino. Since i wanted to make an activation during our hike we chose Monte Tamaro. This place is famous by the Chappel Santa Maria degli Angeli designed by Mario Botta.

By train we got to Rivera-Bironico and after a 10minute walk we arrived by the cable car station to Alpe Foppa. The hike started here. Monte Tamaro ist classified as T3 according Swiss SAC.

But at least we got there and had a break first, bread, landjäger and cervelat (typical switzerland). All togehter with a glass of wine (Gipfelwein).

Invigorated, i prepared for the acrivation. A HWEF as inverted L should do the job. First i tried to get an S2S, but no way. 40m the first QSO with Slovak Republic, Spain and UK. I tried 20m with no result so i got back to 40m and worked Czech Republic and Spain.

While i was working, there where 2 Italien Mounten Bikers getting to the top, carrying their bike, crazy people.

It was time to leave to catch the bus at Alpe Neggia. By bus an train we got to Bellinzona and had evening meal. Back home by train, trough the Gotthard Base Tunnel.

Chasseral HB/BE-104 16.08.2018

During my Vacation i wanted a least one activation, as usual my wife wanted to join me, she likes to walk downhill and hates walking uphill, therefore we selected HB/BE-104 Chasseral. After some planning, we started early to get to the Top by Bus from St.Imier. At first we had a coffe at the fine restaurant. From the Top of Chasseral, you have a nice view to the three lake area, (Wiki only in German, sorry) this is also the language border swiss german to french. The other side shows the Jura Mountains with some wind engine.

After i went to install my equipment to have some QSO. i worked 5 s2s in Switzerland, Austria and Croatia, i worked some more from Croatia, UK and Germany.

Once i collected all my stuff, we started the hike downhill to Lignieres, There is a race course, mostly motorbikes. From here we toke the Post Bus to Le Landeron and then back home.

Engelberg HB/SO-019 16.06.2018

The Swiss Sota Mountain Activation Day 2018 toke place the 16.06.2018, a mostly sunny day. SInce i did not have a lof of time, i decided to go to HB/SO-019 thats close to my place. My wife drove me up and after a very short walk into the activation zone i started setup the antenna. This time i have a 10m and a 7m fiber mast and erected a Inverted L with an endfed (20m) antenna.

At the beginning i concentrated working S2S with other Swiss OM. After 8 S2S i started calling CQ on my own frequency, during this time i worked UK, Norway and Portugal and swiss OM doing S2S.

During the breaks, i was throwing the frisbee for my dog, she likes this game.

On Top of the Engelberg, there is a transmitting Tower. Check out position 16.

Hinteri Egg BL/BL-001 15.04.2018

Well I thought it would be time to start this year’s SOTA season. Since my wife joined me, we toke an easy one. By car we got to Reingoldswil and went with the cable car up to Wasserfallen, where the Track starts up to Hinteri Egg. Fortunately, it wasn’t to hot. After an hour we were up there.

After installing my Equipment, I tried to find a free frequency on 40m, no way full of contesters. After I changed to 20m I needed a quarter hour to get 4 QSO in my log. After all a nice day after a long dark winter.

I worked Switzerland (one S2S), England and Central Russia.

Hochwacht – Homberg HB/AG-012 29.09.2017

After HB/AG-001 i went to Hochwacht / Homberg (HB/AG-012). A nice open place with tables, benches and kids playground. Over there is a Look-out, to see the surroundings.

From here one can see the Lake of Hallwil as well as the lake of Baldegg. From the parking (there is a restarant nearby) you walk for a couple of minutes to get to the activation area. On 40m i worked Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, England, Germany, Wales, Spain and Austria. The highlight was a s2s to Portugal.

La Montagne – Rechtenberg HB/JU-004 28.09.2017

Since i planed a second activation in HB/JU i had another one hour drive to “Chalet des Amis de la Nature, Rettemberg, Rue du Boutchu, 2824 Vicques JU”, from here a hike through the Wood, there is no sign at the top, you must navigate yourself. I use Oruxmaps, i can recomend this app for Android. A dead fallen tree trunk was my temporary shack. The antenna wire i throw over the trees. From this location, i could work Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia and Poland on 40m. 3 s2s out of 15 QSO.

Stierenberg HB/AG-001 29.09.2017

My first activation in Kanton Aargau brought me to the Stierenberg. From the parking lot it was a short walk of a half hour. Close to the summit, you must follow a dirt track to get there. There a nice benches to install your shack. SInce there was no good signal on 20m i stuck to 40m, i worked Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Spain, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Austria, Poland and England, the last one with s2s.

Since i took some food, i decided to have a break here, for my dog i had some goodies that i throw away, so the dog had to search for them.

Mont Raimeux HB/JU-001 28.09.2017

After a drive from 1h i arrived at “Vers les Maisons 95, 2745 Grandval”, from here there is a 10minute hike to the top of Mont Raimeux. The way goes across a meadow full of cattle. Well they fled as they saw my dog. HI. At the top we have tables and benches, a perfect place for my shack.I setup the antenna again as inverted L and worked Switzerland, Wales and Greece, Two QSO out of 4 as s2s. one QSO on 20m the rest on 40m.

Geissflue HB/BL-007 24.09.2017

On the pass “Salhöhe” is a big parking lot, after leaving the car we followed the regular hike path for one hour to get to the activation area. There is a small place and a lot of hiker are walking by. I decided to hang my efhw as a inverted L, i fixed my tripod with heavy rocks. The mast is about 7 mters, from there over a tree branch, the rest of the wire i throw over the cliff over the trees.

With this setup i worked switzerland, scotland and england on 20m. Since there was no sun on this corner and my wife was getting cold, i stopped after 4 QSO, so 3 out of 4 QSO were S2S.

On the way to the Top, you may go a small track to the top of “Kanton Aargau“.

The signal for cellular phone is very weak up there, no update on Sotawatch for s2s.
