Musenalper Grat HB/NW-017 06.10.2022

Our target today for my XYL and me is the Musenalper Grat. We took the easy way to get to the Top. There are two different Cable Cars. First from Niederrickenbach Station to Niederrickenbach Dorf , from here with a small Cable Car to the Summit.  Once at the top, there is a short walk to the Activation Zone. All of a sudden a cool wind showed up and my XYL wanted to have a Drink in the Alpbeizli. We took a Glas of white wine and since i had some cold fingers i took a special coffee Zwetschgen Luz. A Hot coffee in a Glass, few coffee and more schnaps. They bring the coffee and put the Bottle with the schnaps on the Table, you may server your self.

After the break we walked down to Niederrickenbach Dorf and from there back home by Public Transport

Arnihaaggen HB/OW-027|Brienzer Rothorn HB/OW-010 23.09.2022

The plan for today was to activate two summits in the Canton Obwalden.  The easy one is HB/OW-010, just by the Cable Car and some steps to the top. But first i wanted to activate HB/OW-027. From the Cable Car Station you have to hike down to Eisee. From there it’s a nice hike up to Arnihaaggen. There is plenty space to setup an antenna. Later i went down to Eisee Restaurant to get a refreshment. Bach to Rothorn i took the Chair Lift.

Each side of the Brienzer Rothorn claim it’s our Summit, Lucerne and Berne. But the summit itself lies in a three canton corner and the Peak belongs to Obwald. The Rothorn is easy accessibly by Public Transport and a Cable Car. A short walk brings you to the summit. During Wintertime this is well know spot for Sports.

Sonnebergwald HB/LU-028 22.09.2022

My planing for today was to activate Chingstuel, near the Brünig Pass. The summit can be reached via Cable Car and 70 minutes hike, rated T3 according SAC.  At the station i asked for tickets, Sorry, but the Cable Car does not work today, coma back tomorrow.  Well i didn’t calculated with that one, since the Swiss Rail App told me, all okay. Since i was going back to Lucerne, i decided to activate Sonnebergwald, instead. By public transport i got to Kriens, where the hike starts. You may go up by a Retro Funicular, The schedule for today was not my friend, therefore i had to hike to the summit. At the beginning of the  hike you get some nice stairs, later it’s a nice trail, T1, no problems. At the top you see the top station of the funicular. From there it’s still 2km to go. The activation is flat surrounded by high trees. Easy to setup an antenna. Happy SOTA.

Landsbärg HB/TG-006|Burstel/Haselberg HB/TG-004 26.07.2022

Today i want to activate 2 small summits in the Canton Thurgau. This place is well known for its Apple Trees and the Cider, called Most ins Swiss German dialect. Therefore if you talk from Thurgau people say often MostIndien. I went to Gunterhausen by Train. The hike to HB/TG-004 started directly at the Station, first trough meadow before entering the forest. Its an easy walk , after one hour you are at the top of the hill. The activation zone is a small corridor between the trees, just enough to hang a wire into the trees. Within a short time i got some nice contacts. Soon after i walked back to the Train Station to move on to the next Summit.

Grand Som Martel HB/NE-003 12.06.2022

Today is National Summit Activation Day. As last year i decided to activate a french speaking Canton. By Public Transport i got to “Le Locle, Haut-du-Quartier”, from there the hike started. In less than a hour i got into the Activation zone as seen on sotl.as. The is no track at the end, at the destination is a Radio TV Tower. It was a realy hot day and i was sitting in the shadow of the tower. The direction of the Antenna was not perfekt, there was a big fir tree just next to my QTH. Later i walked back to the bus station. This place is a remote place and the Public Traffic runs only every two hours on Sunday. Therefore i had to wait some time until i got a bus. During that time i watched some swallows, they had their nest underneath the farmhouse opposite the bus station. It was fun watching them.

Mont Vully HB/FR-036 28.04.2022

As my XYL wanted to have a trip, i decided to got for an easy one. By public transport we got to Sugiez, the starting point of our hike today. The summit to reach today is Mont Vully. Along the lower hillside, there is every inch reserved for wine grapes. They cultivate the grapes called Chasselas, a white wine well known in Switzerland.

The propagation was not very good this morning, i worked half a hour , to get some QSO.  Fortunately a bunch of S2S.

Later we had a glass of white wine in Murten, before we left to get back home.

Wannebärg HB/SH-002 12.04.2022

It’s time for a next activation, got all gear together and right to the train. During the travel to Osterfingen, (starting point for the hike), the train passed the famous “Rhine Falls“. This region is well known for Wine. After one hour i was in the activation zone and started the setup as usual. All of a sudden i missed the Banana plug to BNC Adapter. A disaster, i checked for my knife also missing, this is a man-made disaster. After some head scratching i tried my best and got a handicraft work solution, that got me at least the needed QSO.

Calmut HB/GR-292 01.03.2022

The wx forecast was excellent, therefore i got my gear together and went by Public transport to the Oberalppass, wich belongs to  Skiarena Andermatt-Sedrun. The summit Calmut is the first after the Oberalp Pass, that connects Swiss Cantons Uri with Graubünden. Calmut is an easy 1 hour snow shoe hike with flat beginning and a step finish. As i got to the top, it was really windy, cold and strong wind.

I installed my antenna, the mast tied to the bench. I could protect myself behind the backpack from the wind. It was my first try with 60m and it locks promising, i got 9 QSO in only 7 minutes.  On 20m i worked OM’s from all over Europe. As the wind got stronger i had to leave. Over all, a successful activation, i will do again next winter.

Wispile/Stand HB/BE-105 10.02.2022

The forecast looked to get out for an activation. My XYL joined me, therefore an easy one. Just a ride with a Gondola Lift. We went to Gstaad by Public Traffic. This place is well known to host some VIPS. Check out on Wikipedia. The Gondola brought us to HB/BE-105 Wispile / Stand. After a short walk you’re in the activation Zone.

First i tried 40m and within 3 minutes i had my first 5 QSO. Later after some CQ’s, i switched to 20m. My first QSO was a S2s with SV2RUJ, this was a surprise. In 20 minutes i made another 11 QSO. Check the map below to see where my waves were going.

Selibüel HB/BE-151 19.01.2022

As last year i wanted to activate this Summit. As i didn’t used the Snowshoes last year, i asked Bruno (hb9cbr) about. As a lot of people going to this summit, the path is hard and you may walk up with no problem. In the shadow there have been some iced spots.

I setup my gear and was looking for a free frequency on 40m, no way, it was very busy. I tried 20m and got some QSO, most with QSB. I got enough to get 6 points. Since the public transport has only two course back home, i had to leave, or wait another 4h on the cold. On the way down, i got my crampon for a save descent.
